Sean Casey wins the 30th Irish Backgammon Open

The Irish Open was held between 14-16th October in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire. The main event was won by Sean Casey, who beat top-class player Paul Van Dijke in the final. Congratulations to Sean Casey who won the event for the third time in his playing career and now holds the record for the greatest number of wins in the event (you can see past winners here).

The Consolation tournament was won by tournament newcomer Daniel Lynch, who beat tournament veteran Shea Mulhall in the final.

The Last Chance tournament was won by another tournament newcomer, Neil Dobbs, who beat seasoned UK player Peter Bennett in the final.

The BFI would like to thank all 62 participants, tournament directors Jamie Degabriele and Mary Fogarty, and all those who assisted, in particular Vic Sprake, David McNamara, Brendan Burgess and Eileen Mulvany.
