Wicklow Open 2022 results

The Wicklow Open returned to Ashford this year, after two online editions due to Covid-19. The tournament was held on 24th September in the ‘N11 at Ashford House’ pub. There were 26 entries, several of whom were attending their first live play tournament. There was a real sense of the backgammon community coming back to life, with plenty of banter, catching up and reconnecting.

The tournament winner was backgammon veteran, David McNamara (aka The Cracker). The runner-up was another veteran, Paul O’Kelly. Semi-finalists were Felix Vink and Nicola Fitzgibbon.

The consolation tournament was won by Derek Murphy. The runner-up was Jamie Degabriele. Semi-finalists were Chris Bleakley and Paul Davitt.

The BFI would like to congratulate the winners and the finalists.

Thank you to tournament organisers Alan Cox and Jamie Degabriele. Thanks also to Joe Dooley and Paul Davitt for sourcing the venue for the event and all those who helped out on the day and in the build up to the event.
